This gorgeous gal had a boudoir session over the holidays in order to create an album for her hubby as a gift for their anniversary. She was so much fun right from the get go...quite a natural. Excellent timing for posting pics as well, since Valentine's Day is coming up and I am in the final planning for a Boudoir Marathon.
Boudoir photos can show as much or as little as you would like. Sometimes "less is more"...leaving something to the imagination is often times sexier than showing everything. Rest assured, boudoir photos are for everyone...not just the model with the perfect body....

Not only did we have VIP seats (a gift from a family friend), but it was hosted by the Commandant of the USMC and the Guest of Honor was Colin Powell! I had such a nice time with this couple today. They are recently back in the States after being stationed overseas with the USMC (Semper Fi) and are expecting their first little bundle of joy in the next few weeks. I loved the ideas they had about poses (especially what Dad has planned for the newborn pics) which made it so much fun to shoot their session. As you can see, they are both gorgeous with fantastic smiles, so you just know how their little boy is going to turn out :-)

This little guy had a rough start. Mommy was in labor 29 hours and then he was re-admitted to the hospital for jaundice... couldn't tell during his session. He was so sweet; I don't think he complained the whole time. He wanted to be awake so Mommy had to work pretty hard to get him sleepy enough to capture these cute poses. His Daddy's nickname at UVA (see the school hat) was Rhino, so they were so excited about the cute little rhino hat. Can't wait to watch this little guy grow up!

This is just the cutest couple (I have to admit, I may be a little biased here)!! They are anxiously awaiting the arrival of their first little bundle of love. Baby Boy is due mid-July and they are just about ready. We did an informal session one afternoon. It's hard to believe 3 months have passed since the last time I had a session with this little cutie. I remember that his eyes are just to die for and I couldn't wait to capture them again. His Mom and I were both sure that we had this session under control. We switched to a time right after his nap and lunch so he would be rested, full and happy. Can you believe we still struggled to get him to smile??!! I even had my "assistant" (my 4 year old daughter) playing peek-a-boo with him and he was a hard sell! He's so darn cute though, isn't he? I had fun playing around with some new Photoshop...

Brooke Point – High School Lacrosse – Stafford, Virginia

It was youth lacrosse night this week and if the kids wore their jersey's they could get in to watch a high school game for free. I went along with my son (I never tire of watching this fast moving sport) and brought my camera along (of course)! Kids are with Daddy for the day. I should be cleaning the house, doing the laundry, walking the dog, making food for the week...but instead I went outside and walked around the yard looking at my gardens and smelling the flowers. Took some shots of things I found blooming right now to use in Photoshop. I don't get a lot of uninterrupted time to just "play". I love Spring! Enjoy. Now, back to my housework ;-)

After a re-schedule because of all the rainy weather we have been having, I was able to get out with this fantastic family today for a whole bunch of photos. The girls just turned 2 and big brother is 4. No one under the age of 3 wanted to smile... but big bro was a PRO! I had a lot of fun watching everyone run around and play in the sunshine.

They say the eyes are the window to our soul. I know for sure that they are an amazing part to capture on "film". These shots were both taken this past weekend. I love getting close up like this top one. I followed that little girl around for over an hour trying to get her to stay still long enough for me to capture the same close-up of her. Sometimes you have to know when to take what you can get!

I have long been a fan of the silhouette shot. In certain situations, it provides that extra drama one may be looking for. Shooting into the light can be somewhat problematic, however. Many photographers are intimidated by the idea of pointing the camera towards the light and shy away from many opportunities.
The two most challenging aspects of photographing backlit subjects are to adequately eliminate flare and ensure correct exposure. These concerns can be allayed with a little practice, good technique and an understanding of the exposure process.
Flare gives rise to a loss of definition...

Studio and outdoor fun with Fredericksburg Area Photo Club.

I am a member of a local photography club. This week we met down at Gold State Studios for some practice shooting kids in and out of studio. I loved being able to get into a "real" studio with lights, strobes, backdrops, synched lights and more galore (picture kid in a candy shop)!!! Here are some of the pics I took:

Eagle Hill Farm… What a beautiful day it was :-)

I volunteer my services at Eagle Hill Farm providing them with pictures of the horses they can use for their website and potential adopters. If you have never heard EHF; they are located in Culpeper County, VA. Originally established as a rescue organization for PMU mares (Premarin), they now also take in abandoned, abused, and/or neglected horses. Their volunteers and staff nurse them to health, care for and train the horses, hoping to find a "forever home" for them. If you (or your kids) love horses, it's worth a trip out there on a warm, sunny day.

Wow, so I thought it was just my daughter that did things exactly how she wanted too, but now it appears that maybe it may just be a girl thing. This little beauty, according to her mother, has been doing nothing during the day but sleeping; not even eating. I was so excited for a shoot with a teeny tiny baby I could smush all around. Ha, joke was on me. She was WIDE awake and HUNGRY! If we put her down she cried. If we moved her she cried. If we took her blanket off, she cried. Just one of those days.
